Stay Informed, Stay Smiling: The Family Dental Blog

Robert D. Crabtree, D.M.D. - General Dentist

Dr. Crabtree retired in July 2023 after 41 years of service. He is currently enjoying his free time traveling, gardening, and improving his culinary skills. He is greatly missed by both the office staff and his patients.

Addressing workforce issues within our office and the Dental field in general; like all healthcare sectors the oral healthcare workforce has diminished. A recent study indicated that a decline in office staffing, exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic indicated an exit of up to 10% of the oral healthcare workforce with 20% considering retirement within the next five year. This has severely impacted the wait time for appointments. This shortage includes Dentists, Dental Hygienists, Dental Assistants and Administrative staff. Reference; Focus Spring 2023 issue.

So to address this issue we are recruiting quality people to become Family Dental Services staff members. These positions are currently for part time employment. We have openings in the areas of Dental Hygiene, Dental Assistant and Front Office. Please call or email your resume to; fds-stp@att.net

The Doctors of Family Dental Services have been closely following the ever-evolving situation surrounding COVID-19. We have scheduling only patients who required emergency treatment and needed to be seen, from mid- March through May 16, 2020. Effective Monday May 18, 2020 we will resume our usual hours for regular appointments, with new procedures in place to protect our patients and staff.

We have been and will continue to follow recommendations provided by the CDC, ADA, Federal and state government, and other professional dental organizations, Including regular fogging of the office with Hypochlorous Acid/HOCl.

Patients will be asked questions when scheduling and confirming. The questions will be something like this:

->have they or any family member been diagnosed with Covid-19 or been to an area that is a "hot spot", been told by any healthcare professional to self quarantine, traveled by commercial aircraft in the past 10 days, had a fever, cough, headache or loss of sense of smell or taste?

We would like to inform our patients that only the patient or one adult with young child will be allowed in the office, and that they must be wearing a mask or other facial covering for entrance into the office.

They will need to enter the office with mask in place, have their temperature taken, sign the office statement about the questions previously asked, be given a pager and return to their vehicle until paged that the treatment area has been disinfected and is ready. At that time a staff member will be waiting by the front entrance for the patient to be escorted to their treatment area.

If you have DENTAL BENEFITS...DON'T LEAVE DENTAL BENEFIT MONEY ON THE TABLE.

Toward the end of your benefit year, take time to evaluate if you have benefits left that you can use before they expire. It is easy to get back on track to good dental health especially if you have dental insurance to help with the expenses. Consider this: preventative cleanings allow Dentist and staff to catch problems early. Most plans cover this twice per year with no out of pocket expense.
